Tour programme
We love the highlights, but the real magic happens off the beaten path. Let us show you the personality, charm, and secret beauty of this vibrant city in a local, fun, and eco-friendly way. Our tour begins with a panoramic ride through Zadar's city streets, stopping at the Fosa Gate, a Renaissance-style triumphal arch, and then continuing to the Zadar Sphinx, a symbol of eternal love. We'll also visit the Sea Organ and Greeting to the Sun, marvel at the Roman Forum and St. Donatus Church, and catch glimpses of the rowing boatmen of Zadar before concluding with a drop-off at your preferred location within the city or at the Zadar port.
Tour start and panoramic ride along the city streets
After the pickup at the agreed location, our driver will take you on a panoramic ride through the city streets to our first stop.
The Fosa Gate stop
After a short ride through the eastern part of the town, our first stop is at the Fosa Gate, also known as the Land Gate of Zadar. The Land Gate was erected in the Renaissance style in 1543, according to the designs of Venetian architect Michele Sanmicheli. It is shaped like a triumphal arch with three entrances and was the main entrance to the city at the time.
Panoramic ride to the Zadar Sphinx
After the Fosa Gate, we will head to the western part of the city, passing by the Zadar Bridge, with a view of the Old City. Our ride will take us through some of Zadar’s old neighborhoods, as well as the new tourist zone with villas and hotels.
The Zadar Sphinx
Our next stop includes one of Zadar's best love stories 🙂 The stories about the Zadar Sphinx and the treasure buried under it have inspired numerous fantasies among generations of Zadar citizens. Fun fact: The Zadar Sphinx is the largest Sphinx in Europe and was meant to be a symbol of eternal love.
The boatmen of Zadar
The rowing boatmen of Zadar know as barkajoli are one of the city's symbols.
The Sea Organ and the Greeting to the sun
The Sea Organ is a modern icon of Zadar, an architectural wonder built into the underwater part of the city quay. Waves passing through musical pipes beneath the surface create enchanting 'sea music.' The same architect, Nikola Bašić, is credited for the Greeting to the Sun, a 22-meter-wide circle of 300 glass plates embedded in the quay, representing the Solar System. Alfred Hitchcock famously said this spot offers the most beautiful sunset in the world.
The Roman Forum and St. Donatus stop
Located in front of the Church of St. Donatus, the heart of Zadar, you can walk through this square from the Roman era. It was built between the 1st century BC and the 3rd century AD, measuring 45 by 90 meters. Just steps away from the seafront lies the impressive Zadar Roman Forum. As one of the oldest and most important landmarks in Zadar, it is also the largest forum in Croatia, even larger than the one in Pula. It was once the hub for public gatherings, always buzzing with people. This stop is usually the longest, so you may also take a stroll through the old pedestrian streets nearby.
Panoramic ride to the drop off point
It's time for a final small talk with our driver and to hear your feedback - did you enjoy the tour, the driver, the tuk tuks? 🙂
We can drop you off at any location within the city or at the Zadar port.
