Zadar City and Wine Eco Tuk Tuk Tour

Tour programme

Our tour begins at Kolovare Beach, followed by visits to the Land Gate, the Sea Organ, the Greeting to the Sun, the Church of St. Donatus, and the Roman Forum. We'll also see the traditional Barkajoli boatmen, visit the Sphinx of Zadar, and conclude with a wine experience at Degarra winery, where you can enjoy local wines and learn about Zadar's winemaking history.

  1. Kolovare Beach

Kolovare is a well-known and popular beach among locals and tourists, with a pleasant promenade above and a few bars where you can enjoy morning coffee or cocktails.

  2. The Land Gate

The best-known of the gates along the walls that encircle Zadar is the Land Gate, once the main entrance to the city. Located by the Foša harbor with views of the water, it was built by the Venetian architect Michele Sanmicheli in 1543. It features a large triumphal arch and two side arches, all adorned with images of Zadar’s patron saint, Chrysogonus. The winged lion of St. Mark, hovering over the central arch, is a reminder of Venice’s long rule over Zadar.

  3. The Sea Organ

The Sea Organ (Croatian: Morske orgulje) is a unique architectural sound installation and experimental musical instrument in Zadar, Croatia. It creates mesmerizing melodies as sea waves flow through a series of tubes hidden beneath large marble steps, offering visitors a one-of-a-kind experience blending nature and art.

  4. The Greeting to the Sun

The Greeting to the Sun (Croatian: Pozdrav suncu) is a striking monument which features 300 multi-layered glass plates set into the stone-paved waterfront. At evening, embedded lighting elements come alive, producing a mesmerizing light show that draws inspiration from the beauty of nature and the cosmos.

  5. The Church of St. Donatus

The Church of St. Donatus in Zadar is a monumental pre-Romanesque structure from the 9th century, known for its distinctive circular shape and striking simplicity. Once a focal point of religious life, today it serves as a venue for cultural events, including musical performances due to its remarkable acoustics.

  6. The Roman Forum

The Roman Forum in Zadar is an ancient public square built between the 1st century BCE and the 3rd century CE, once the bustling heart of the city’s social and political life. Today, its well-preserved ruins offer a fascinating glimpse into Roman architecture and serve as a popular gathering spot for locals and tourists alike.

  7. Barkajoli

From early morning to late evening, the Barkajoli traditional boatmen ferry passengers and tourists across the Zadar peninsula to the mainland and back in small rowing boats, continuing what some daring explorers claim is a 3,000-year-old tradition.

  8. The Sphinx of Zadar

It is said that The Sphinx of Zadar grants love wishes, so prepare yourself! It is the largest sphinx in Europe, built in 1918 by Giovanni Smirich as a memorial to his wife. It features a unique design with human hands instead of paws and includes an undeciphered hieroglyphic inscription on its nemesa, adding to its mystique.
