Kotor Old Town Walking Tour

A walking tour is a practical way to put Kotor’s tightly packed squares, palaces and churches into context before exploring independently. This short guided experience focuses on the Old Town rather than a boat trip around the bay, making it a different choice from the Blue Cave excursions that also depart from Kotor.

Kotor Old Town Walking Tour

Tour programme

This small group, city walking tour of the Old Town of Kotor gives you a great introduction to this UNESCO World Heritage Site. If you are staying in Kotor for couple of hours only, it is providing a wealth of information in a short period of time. If you are staying several days in Kotor, Perast, Tivat, Herceg Novi or other places around the Boka Bay, it is a good starting point in your exploration of the region. Explore Kotor city with local guides in this small group (maximum 15 persons in a group, we often have 2 guides starting at the same time to enable everybody to participate) and learn about its history, architecture, culture and cuisine.

Many empires battled for control over the city throughout the centuries: from being an autonomous city of the Byzantine Empire, free city of medieval Serbia, then under Venetian or Hungarian states, gaining independence and then returned to Venetian control once again, just to be occupied by France and then Austria, until Kotor finally became part of Yugoslavia. How to plan this experience

Choose the right kind of Kotor tour

Choose this experience if your priority is the historic town and a guide’s explanation of what you are seeing. If your main goal is swimming or spending time on the water, compare it with a separate bay cruise. A walking tour and a boat excursion serve different purposes, even when both start in Kotor.

Plan the rest of your day around the meeting point

The supplier lists the Sea Gate as the starting point. Leave time to reach the gate on foot rather than treating the tour time as your arrival time in Kotor. If you are coming from a cruise ship or another town, leave a buffer for disembarkation, traffic and the walk to the Old Town.

Separate the guided walk from paid sights

A stop outside a landmark is not necessarily an admission ticket. Check the inclusion and exclusion lists below before budgeting for museums, the cathedral or the city walls. If you want to enter additional sights after the walk, allow separate time and check their current opening arrangements.
